Choir

The Choir department is one of the units/departments of the church that was very useful in embryonic stage of the church. Although the church did not start with a standing choir, the church eventually had a choir when it settled at King Street in the 1960s. The choir was selected and with members of the stall all dressed in black and white. The first ever song leader of the choir was Bro Solomon Hamusa Sesay (late), with the help of Mr. F M Kamara (late) the English hymns were translated to Limba. The choir hugely contributed to the evangelistic drive of the developing church as many became attached to the church because of the Limba songs and hymns the church led by the choir was singing. Many who became members did so because they were proud to hear Limba religious songs and most importantly, the Limba version of the traditional English hymns they were used to hearing.

The use of local music instruments such as ‘bata’ (locally made drum) accompanied by the clapping of hands and dancing during church services added value to congregation’s new found life in Christ. Till today, the choir in our many branches across the country is doing marvelously well and has gone through a lot of transformation from a simple traditional choir to a much more complex one that however tries to cater for the musical needs of the church.

The choir of the National Pentecostal Mission is very instrumental in not just our usual Sunday services, but also in weeding ceremonies, funeral services and also in ceremonial occasions. The choir unlike the men and women fellowships was established with the sole aim of providing music for the church. In addition to that, the choir also caters for the welfare of its members in every aspect.

The Choir has a central administration under which every choir group belong to and take instructions from. The National Choir of the National Pentecostal Mission superintends over the activities of every choir group under its jurisdiction.
